Family Archaeology Weekend - Saturday
Family Archaeology Weekend
Saturday and Sunday, September 16 and 17: 9am–4pm
Join us as we discover pioneer-era artifacts and uncover the story of early pioneer life in the Finger Lakes. Families will explore regional cultural history as we unearth hidden treasures of Frost Town, a pioneer logging settlement dating back to 1790. Participants will experience real-time scientific discovery through hands-on, guided excavation of an 18th century farmhouse foundation. Regular hikes will take visitors through nearby Gulick Gorge Cemetery, a pioneer cemetery where grave markers date from the early 1800s. Nature Center guides will share stories of the past, interpreting items previously uncovered by students working the homestead dig sites.
Families will be shuttled from the CNC visitor center to the dig site at the Hall Homestead on the Frost Town Road. Shuttles will run between the nature center and the archaeology site all day.
Families are encouraged to pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the CNC trails.
