Description
Is there a guitar collecting dust in your closet? Do you have a melody stuck in your head and you aren't sure what to do with it? Are you in need of some creative expression in your life? This January, start the year off right by attending the nature songwriting workshop series at the RMSC Cumming Nature Center. Whether you are brand new to your instrument or if you are an experienced songwriter looking for some fresh ideas, this class is designed to help you stretch your musical ability and find creative inspiration from nature. Imagine yourself sitting next to a warm fireplace by a giant window overlooking a beautiful pond, sipping on a warm beverage, listening to new musical ideas come to life and getting friendly feedback on your own compositions. Through a combination of exercises that help to increase awareness of nature, unlock creative expression in lyrics, and expand understanding of music theory, participants will receive both ample guidance to answer questions as they arise, as well as plenty of quiet space to let new ideas germinate and grow. This class is the perfect gift for the creative person in your life who just needs more time to devote to their musical craft.
Biography
Andy Webster is an accomplished songwriter and performer who has recorded seven albums of original music and opened for many music legends, including Richie Havens and Peter Yarrow (of Peter, Paul, & Mary). He has taught music lessons and songwriting to hundreds of students in a wide variety of styles including rock, folk, bluegrass, blues, country, and jazz. With a master's degree in education and over a decade of experience as a science teacher, Andy is well-versed in helping people to recognize patterns in nature and marvel at its many curious mysteries. In addition to the leading songwriting workshops, Andy is one of the RMSC Cumming Nature Center's Forest School teachers, and also leads astronomy events for families.

Students are encouraged to bring instruments and notebooks. Outdoor time will be optional.
